A Lesson of the Dangers of Hate-Oriented Xenophobia

Happy 374th Birthday Thomas Maule! Celebrate by following his example with courage to speak out against hate-filled political corruption with the integrity to change allegiance to that broken system. His critique of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials and resulting imprisonment inspired the USA’s 1791 First Amendment Rights to Free Speech (along with the freedom of the press, freedom of religion, the right to peaceably assemble, and the right to petition the government for grievances). Maule, born May 3, 1645, believed in the prosecutions of witches initially; but fearing his own hanging, he waited three years to publish his critique that landed him in prison for a year charged with slander and blasphemy. Salem’s failed theocracy would echo into the foundations of the USA 84-years later (a Uranus return) when they declared a separation of church and state.
Today May 3, 2019, Neptune at 18º Pisces returns to where it was at the last hangings Maule witnessed on September 22, 1692. With #mercuryaries mutually receiving #marsgemini we are charged to speak out and be heard to break the old cycles of silencing. Mars’s opposition to #jupitersagittarius falls on powerful Planetary nodes of Venus (and widely those of Uranus) magnetizing this imperative to ancient stories of Inquisitions, Witch Hunts and Crusades, as well as golden ages likes the Renaissance. Since its inception #xenophobia surges of right-wing groups have co-opted the #firstamendment as grounds to protect their hate-oriented ideologies. Will Mars lead the charge to break the cycle of xenophobic domination to honor the principles free speech while disarming hate filled rhetoric that incites violence? It seems a tall order, but a Maule likely had little sense of lasting influence of his actions in 1695.
Here’s an interesting read on the dangers of allowing hate speech (which the First Amendment inadvertently has done). https://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/24/books/review/the-harm-in-hate-speech-by-jeremy-waldron.htmlbyMichael W.
